The local NMI at North Vernon First Nazarene is headed by Martha Morgan and a council of world-focused followers of Christ who take seriously the call to “go and make disciples.” The Church of the Nazarene is now involved in mission work in 158 world areas and the number of new believers and the number of churches is growing literally on a daily basis. We help provide back-up support for more than 790 missionaries that were deployed from approximately 40 world areas (including 508 Mission Corps volunteers and tentmakers) with more than 190 missionary kids. Locally, we are a part of this mission effort by organizing efforts in prayer, discipling, giving, and educating people about the on-going work around the world.

North Vernon has a rich heritage in international mission work. Our last two pastors have come to the church from the mission fields of Africa and we are continually involved in ministry overseas through Work and Witness trips, sponsoring compassionate ministries efforts like crisis care kits for the needy, raising funds through Faith Promise campaigns and special offerings, and most of all, lifting the needs of the world to God in prayer.

The first Sunday evening services of each month is set aside for mission education, inspiration, and to challenge our people to increased involvement in this great arm of Kingdom work. By local participation there is an awareness that though we realize we are not “it,” we are “a part of it” and pledge to do our part in helping fulfill the great commission of Christ.
